What makes a cozy simulator actually cozy

Cozy sims are having a moment, and a lot of games are chasing the aesthetic without understanding it. Pastel palettes and a lofi soundtrack aren't enough on their own.

The real ingredient is the absence of pressure. No timers punishing you for stepping away, no fail states, no leaderboards breathing down your neck. You should be able to close the app mid-task and come back with zero anxiety.

The second ingredient is slow, visible progress. A tree you planted growing over days, a garden filling in, a shop getting tidier. Cozy games make time feel productive instead of wasted.

When both of those click together, you get something genuinely restful. It's a surprisingly hard needle to thread, which is why the good ones stand out so much.
